Hicksville
For
our 25th
Season, the Playmakers bring back one of our funniest comedies,
originally produced in 2017! Retired American Air Force Colonel John
Hicks wins a tiny English fishing village named Clutterbuck in an
alcohol-fueled poker game. When he arrives to claim his winnings, he
discovers that the town has big troubles. The local economy is on the
ropes, and the village is populated by an odd assortment of
characters straight out of a Monty Python sketch. Can Colonel Hicks
find a plan to save Clutterbuck? Will the villagers accept him? Why
is a mysterious government official from London hanging about? And
what in the world is a Rhubarb Gram? “Hicksville”
will leave you laughing and have you cheering for the eccentric but
lovable citizens of Clutterbuck! July 11 and 12 at 7:00pm; July 13
at 2:00pm.

October
17, 18 and 19:
The
NoneSuch Playmakers’
“Mystery Double Feature!”
For
the Spooky Season, the Playmakers offer up TWO original
whodunits—
“The
Paper Detectives”
and “The
Last of Lydia.”
In
our first offering, it’s Autumn, 1959. Bestselling mystery authors
Langdon and Dolores Baker are guests at a dinner party hosted by
their publisher, Lionel Kurtz. In a spirited conversation, the Bakers
insist that they are expert detectives, as good as any cop. A
skeptical fellow guest, Police Captain Frank Butterfield, offers a
lucrative wager to the Bakers: solve six real-life police cases from
his experience on the force. There’s one catch-- they must solve
all six before a passing storm ends. As the lightning flashes and the
thunder rolls, the Bakers take on case after case, with increasing
intensity. But, this unusual “party game” has a shock ending
that
even these “paper detectives” could not foresee!
In
“The
Last of Lydia,”
antique dealer Robert Deal visits the offices of Nodder and Fish, a
noted investment firm. He’s there to see Lydia Lang, who has
purchased one of his estate pieces. Deal is shocked to learn that
Lydia has gone missing, and even more shocked when her boss and
co-workers accuse him of her abduction! Despite his protestations,
Deal finds himself caught up in a growing frenzy of accusations and
anger. As the staff becomes a mob, a panicked Deal fears for his
life, until Ruth Kaminski enters the office—and the mob turns on
her! What happened to Lydia Lang? Is Robert Deal truly the culprit?
Or is it Ruth? But wait! Someone else just walked in…! October 17
and 18 at 7:00pm; October 19 at 2:00PM.

December
5, 6 and 7:
The
Gift of the Magi
One
of our two holiday offerings, this adaptation of the popular O. Henry
story is set in New York in the early 1960s. Jim and Della Young are
giddy newlyweds, poor as paupers but rich with love for each other.
For their first Christmas as husband and wife, they are both seeking
special gifts. But with little money, Jim and Della must make great
personal sacrifices in the name of their love. The
Gift of the Magi is
a combined production of the NoneSuch Playmakers and the teen actors
of the Always Deweys Theatre Company. December 5 and 6 at 7:00pm;
December 7 at 2:00pm.
