The
Plot:
In
this memory piece, the audience is transported back to the Christmas
of 1933, in the depths of the Great Depression. On the rural North
Carolina farm of the Morgan family, preparations for the holiday are
underway. The four Morgan daughters (Sarah, Della, Grace and Maggie)
are decorating the family tree and rehearsing their song for the
annual high school pageant. Their mother Nina keeps the house and the
girls in order. Their father Henry labors at his small blacksmith’s
shop, trying to supplement the family income during hard times. As
Henry observes the daily parade of jobless neighbors making their way
into the nearby town looking for work, he hatches an idea: invite
these struggling souls into the Morgan home for a brief rest, a cup
of coffee and few moments of fellowship. Through these visitors the
Morgan girls see the world in a new way, and valuable life lessons
are discovered. Told in flashbacks through the Morgans’
granddaughter, “The Christmas House” is a warm and inviting look
into the lives of a family united in difficult days by love, faith
and compassion.
