The Plot

At the 150-year-old manor known as Bishop House in the Northern Virginia countryside, prominent surgeon Thomas Kaplan dies of an apparent heart attack. Weeks later his family gathers for the reading of his will, with millions of dollars in cash and property at stake.

Unfortunately, Dr. Kaplan’s younger sister May Henry Hobson, who is the executrix of his estate, is refusing to allow the will to be read. Her reason? She is convinced that her brother did not die of natural causes, but was, in fact, murdered. Furthermore, she suspects that the killer was a member of the family, or one of the house staff.

Enter professional “Sleuth for Hire” Alexander Thursday. He has been retained by Mrs. Hobson to ferret out the murderer. She confines everyone to the house and gives Thursday only 24 hours to solve the alleged crime.

Armed only with his wits, his satchel of investigative gadgets and his imaginary secretary Loretta (yes, you read that correctly) Thursday launches into an intense weekend of interrogation, observation and discovery. He soon realizes that the Dr. Kaplan, his family and his loyal servants are concealing a staggering history of secrets, scandals and emotional damage.

Who (if anyone) killed Thomas Kaplan? Come solve the case with our eccentric “Sleuth for Hire” Alexander Thursday. Make your journey to Bishop House for the NoneSuch Playmakers’ new thriller “Mortal Wounds!”
